Forsyth Park

The fountain, the oaks

This is classic Savannah, and it stays classic because it works. There is the fountain, a long oak lined walk and plenty of open lawn. I photographed Jordan and Robert's ceremony at the fountain.

When To Go

Light keeps improving as the afternoon goes on, with long shadows on the paths. Go during the week if you can, because the crowds are real on a nice weekend. The fountain is dyed green around St Patrick's Day each March, so plan around it.

The Rules

The City treats Forsyth Park like other public squares for weddings. Its list shows a capacity of 250 on the north end and no stated limit on the south end, and the Fragrant Garden holds 25. Portraits are one thing. A ceremony with chairs, an aisle runner or decor needs a City special event permit. Apply at least 90 days ahead.
