The Island
tybee island Wedding Photographer
Tybee is the closest beach to Savannah. Dunes, sea oats and the pier give you a totally different set of photos from the oaks and the squares.
A Tybee Island Wedding
A Tybee Island wedding looks nothing like a downtown one, and that is the reason to do it. The sky is bigger, the sand throws light back up onto your faces, and the wind is part of the day whether you plan for it or not. Some parts of the island face west, so you can actually get a sunset here on the East Coast.
I have shot here for years, on the sand and at the white chapel near the dunes. You can read about that one in my Tybee chapel guide.
The Beach Rules
These come from the City of Tybee, so check them for your date.
- You need a Beach Permit for anything beyond usual beachgoers, with a non refundable application fee.
- The beach stays public. The City can't make any part of it private.
- Reservations run from 7 am to 9 pm.
- You set up and take down all your own equipment and decor.
- No fires, glass, dogs or balloon releases. Only real, non dyed flower petals.
- Stay out of the dunes and off the rock jetties for photos.
A Tybee Island Elopement
Tybee is a lovely place to elope. Two of you, an officiant, the permit if you need one and an hour of good light. Then I would take you to the spots I like best on the island. Read more about eloping here.
